Easy Calendar for Jira — Stable, Mature, and Production-Ready

Easy Calendar for Jira started as a Codegeist Hackathon app and has grown into a mature, reliable calendar integration for Jira. This page summarizes the completed product improvements, current roadmap ideas, and feature requests.

Product status: The app is stable, actively maintained where needed, and suitable for production use. The absence of frequent public feature updates since late 2024 should be understood as a sign of product maturity: the core functionality has been delivered, hardened, and optimized, with no need for unnecessary churn or disruptive changes.

Throughout 2023 and 2024, the app received substantial feature, performance, reliability, security, and administration improvements. These updates established the foundation for a dependable “set-and-forget” calendar subscription experience across Jira issues, releases, and enterprise calendar tools.

Summary of delivered improvements

  • Enterprise readiness: The app became an Atlassian Marketplace Cloud Security Participant and added support for Data Residency.

  • Admin control: Admins can use Admin Features to restrict access by Jira user groups and manage global subscriptions across owners.

  • Shared and global subscriptions: Shared Subscriptions and Global calendar subscriptions make it easier to distribute calendar configurations across teams and organizations.

  • Calendar performance: Subscriptions now default to a 5-minute refresh interval where supported, with optimized JQL and improved loading for large Jira instances.

  • Improved user experience: The UI Kit 2 upgrade introduced faster loading and better autocomplete for project lists, filters, and other selectors.

  • Richer calendar events: Calendar entries can include issue descriptions, direct issue and release links, release status improvements, project keys, and configurable start/end date fields.

2024 highlights

  • 14 October 2024: Added Shared Subscriptions, allowing admins to share subscriptions from one configuration with other users.

  • 23 August 2024: Calendar subscriptions now default to a 5-minute refresh interval and can be manually refreshed for Outlook and other calendars that respect the X-PUBLISHED-TTL flag.

  • 24 June 2024: Admins can manage any global subscription, regardless of owner, and issue subscription performance was improved with optimized JQL.

  • 7 June 2024: Added support for Data Residency.

  • 28 May 2024: Upgraded to UI Kit 2 for faster loading and improved autocomplete, plus better support for instances with more than 200 projects, filters, or items.

  • 8 May 2024: Added admin access restrictions by user group, ICS URL properties, and improved loading for large instances.

  • 24 April 2024: Added Global calendar subscriptions and subscription titles.

  • 22 April 2024: The app became an Atlassian Marketplace Cloud Security Participant.

  • April 2024: Version 3.x introduced the paid model, admin logs, performance improvements, and configurable start/end fields for calendar events.

  • 2023: Added support for start dates, custom date fields, custom dateTime fields, issue descriptions in ICS exports, release links, release title improvements, and improved release status handling.

Roadmap and feature requests

  • API support for Google and Microsoft calendars to sync into personal and group calendars and enable faster sync. Share your thoughts through our support portal.

  • Sync changes from calendars back to Jira.

  • Jira dashboard gadgets to show Jira issues, releases, and other calendar subscription data.

  • Use sprint end dates as due dates and show sprint end dates on the calendar.

  • Show last access dates for subscriptions and deactivate subscriptions that have not been used for more than 4 weeks.

  • Allow defining a default time instead of creating full-day events.

  • Map emails when creating meetings.

  • Add more usage statistics for subscriptions. Basic statistics are already available in the admin section.

  • Customize emoji status. Currently the app uses the Jira issue status category.

Easy Calendar for Jira has reached a stable and mature stage. The 2024 updates delivered the key capabilities expected from a dependable calendar integration: security, data residency, admin controls, performance improvements, global and shared subscription workflows, and richer calendar event data.
